Hi everybody,
I’m Derrick, based in the sunny (and often rainy) island city of Singapore. Nope, we’re not in China.
Onto myself, some people call me by different variants of my name, but all you need to know that if you see me in the vicinity and scream “DERRRRRICKKKK!!!“, I’ll try my best respond. (You must understand that there would be someone else with the same name, so better to just approach me.)
I’m a choir instructor to a few choirs of varying ages, all very young and lively singers who really try their best to make music together – which is something I hope to encourage in all my singers: to make harmony with harmony.
From time to time as well, I sing with my good friends as Acappuccino, a pop-jazz A Cappella group. We are a semi-amateur team, each in our own career paths and we do take singing as a hobby very seriously. How serious, you might want to follow us on Facebook and find out more.
Besides Acappuccino, I work with a collective of conductors to improve our choral music education programmes and also hope to help each other.
In my free time, I search for content and interesting things to publish on The VoiceBox, a non-profit local A Cappella advocacy site where I volunteer as an editor. Some of my writings have also been published on international sites like Vocal Asia, this really fills in a much-needed gap to represent Singapore on the map for A Cappella news and also to bring people closer through sharing news from other A Cappella networks.
So generally because of my work, I go through a lot of music regularly and will need to adapt, arrange or (on very rare occasions) even write material for my choirs/groups and this is something I do for people as well.

Other than that, this site serves much for me to share about my thoughts about my work, as well as some hope to inspire my students while also charting my personal growth as a musician.
